In Memory

Mike Raimondi

Mike Raimondi

Remembered by Cecille Walberry Hamilton:

A Very Good, Loyal friend to many in THS '62 class also. He will be sorely missed by many. RIP old friend... I'll make some zeppolis in you and your Mom's memories. Say "Hello" to her from me.... I'll miss your deep, gravelly voice on the phone too.

Knew Mike well at Teaneck high. I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.  Much too soon.

Got this video just a few days too late for Mick to see it:

I absolutely know Mick would have loved this clip.

The worst time for me, other than right now, will be the weeks leading up to Halloween. Mick and I used to play this game of tricking each other into opening up innocent-seeming YouTube videos that turned into heart-stopping shockers. It culminated in the worst, scariest ones being sent right at Halloween time.  Both of us being cardiac patients, it was a fun game of tempting the BIG ONE. And what was really cool about him - because he was such a badass -  was that he was secure enough in our relationship to tell me when I’d really scared the crap out of him. One time he told me that what I’d sent literally, " knocked him off his chair.” We’d laugh, call each other profane names, and threaten each other with pure terror, saying how wouldn’t it be a great way to go: just KABOOM! And it’s all over. And that’s just what he got. He’s happy now. I know it.

Rest in Peace, Pal.

Vin

From my earliest memories, the Raimondi family lived directly across the street from me, on Genesee Avenue. He was Mickie then and we spent countless hours playing hide-and-seek, stoop ball, baseball, football, and so forth. I remember Mrs. Raimondi's kindnesses to me including my first taste of an English muffin and of lasagna. I also recall travelling with the family to visit their relatives (not sure if it was Brooklyn or the Bronx) and having Italian ice from a street vendor. I think it is fair to say he was my first friend and a good one. Great memories from a simpler time. Rest in peace Mike.

Mick was a great and consistent friend to many of us in the class of 62.  After attending his wake last Friday evening I will never complain about birthdays or getting older again.  Like me, Mickey has younger children so we talked often about how they keep us young, but also about the concern of not living long enough to know their children.  One of the last things he shared with me was that he was getting his girls baby shoes bronzed (a forgotten custom) and that he intended to give them to each of them when they get married......which he hoped wouldn't be anytime soon.  I shared that with his wife Donna and she is going to carry out that intention for Mick.  Mickey stayed in touch with many of us on a regular basis, and we will all miss him, but Donna, Gianna, and Jeannie will have difficult days ahead with the loss of "their rock".  May all our prayers be with them.
